Is this newsletter for you? In tech go-to-market, we obsess about things like ICP - ideal customer profile. Who is the perfect buyer for your product? Nailing the ICP can make or break a company, especially in the early stages. Go too narrow and you can’t find your customers. Go too broad and you lose focus. Not every customer will fit within your ICP, sometimes a bluebird comes along, but in order to build a repeatable and sustainable business, most of your customers should fall into your ICP.
My template for B2B SaaS ICP looks like this:
NOTE: if you want the full copy of this ICP template, please leave a comment.
This translates to the world of content too – who is my ideal reader profile? In other words, how do you know if this newsletter is for you? This is who I’m primarily writing for:
Must have:
You’re burned out, or close it
You want to read stories from how others overcome burnout
You want to hear my thoughts on retiring before 40 (and how to make that work financially)
Nice to have:
You work in tech, or a tech-adjacent field
You’re a parent
You read Science Fiction (ok, that’s just for fun)
Is this you? If yes, come along for the ride and subscribe!
Rachel,
Exciting development! Burned out from my long technology Marketing career, ready to hide under the covers for the Winter...work just happens to gets in the way. Unlike you, I already HAD my own consultancy, but dropped it when I was able to get externally-sourced contract work without investing in building my pipeline. At the time, I felt it was better for me just to get the work, cash the checks, and keep busy.
Personally, I am on a parallel journey to yours, diverging only in that I have no children who are not also cats. I spend every waking (non-working) moment teaching STEM courses to kids, helping run a STEM nonprofit, or reading Science Fiction, or watching unique variants of it (Firefly is my jam). Looking forward to seeing what you will create!
All of the above. I do read Sci Fi - Murder Bot series, Adrian Tchaikovsky would be the most recent.
